What icons there are
A site usually has several icons: a small one for the browser tab (16-32 px, favicon.ico or PNG), a large one for the iPhone and iPad home screen (apple-touch-icon, 180 px), manifest icons for Android and installing the site as an app (192 and 512 px), and a one-color mask for pinned tabs in Safari. We check both the page code and the standard addresses where icons sit without being mentioned in the code.
Why you need it
To grab a partner's or client's logo for a presentation, check how your site looks in a tab and on a phone, or see which icon sizes competitors use. Files are downloaded as is, without recompression.

Different devices take different files: a desktop browser takes the small icon, an iPhone takes apple-touch-icon, Android and installed apps take the manifest icons. One favicon.ico often holds several sizes at once - we show them.
An icon is part of a company's brand identity. For a presentation, a review or a link to the site it is usually fine; for your own product or ads - not without the owner's permission.
The site may block automated requests, serve the icon only after scripts run, or have no icon at all. In that case the browser shows a default symbol.
